Álvaro González At present, I’m a PhD student and
a research assistant in the RobeSafe research
group, at the Department of
Electronics of the University of Alcalá
(UAH), under the supervision of Dr. Luis Miguel Bergasa.
I received the MS degree in Telecommunications Engineering in 2008 from the
University of Alcalá. I have been working in the
RobeSafe research group since March 2008 collaborating in several ITS
(Intelligent Transportation Systems) projects funded by international
companies and the Spanish government. This course I’m collaborating in the
teaching of the subjects Computer
Vision Systems and Intelligent
Control Systems included in the Master AES.IS. I plan to read my PhD in
February 2013. My research interests include
Computer Vision (image classifiers, object recognition, text recognition,
scene understanding), Robotics and Intelligent Transportation Systems
(traffic signs detection and monitoring, occupants monitoring). My thesis
focuses on text localization and recognition in scene images. I'm author of
several refered papers in journals and international conferences. I'm
habitual reviewer in different journals and conferences of the IEEE
Intelligent Transportation Systems Society, such as IEEE Transactions on
Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE International Conference on
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC) and IEEE Intelligent Vehicles
Symposium (IV). In 2010 I did a three-month
internship at the Centre for Vision,
Speech and Signal Processing of the University of Surrey in Guildford
(United Kingdom) under the supervision of Dr. Krystian
Mikolajczyk. In 2012 I did a three-month internship at the Computer Science Department
of the RWTH in Aachen (Germany), under the supervision of Prof.
Dr.-Ing. Hermann Ney. Since 2009, I'm one of the co-founders of Vision Safety Technologies Ltd,
a spin-off company established to commercialize computer vision systems for
road infrastructure inspection. Please contact me if you want to
share your experience in the area of text reading in images and/or are
interested in coming to RobeSafe group as a visiting researcher. NEWS (November 2012) ·
Recently, I have presented two papers in the International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR'12) held in Tsukuba, Japan.
